A Question for Readers of this Blog

Hello to anyone reading the blog. I have a question for you. Soon after I started the blog, on August 7, with about 80 entries cut-and-pasted from my Facebook entries, a couple of people said I needed to add labels to make the entries searchable. And after a while, I did so.

Since then, however, I've realized that it was already searchable. You can enter "waite" and get to Waite Park, because Waite Park is part of the post label. So I'm thinking of removing all these labels.

The question: Are there labels that would be useful--some way that you've tried to search the blog that hasn't worked for you? Please leave a comment to let me know.

NOTE: At this point I don't want to use labels that refer to things like "good signage," because I have not been consistent about what I mention in each entry. Labels like that would omit some worthy libraries. But if readers think this would be helpful, I could give it a try.

  1. Hi Ellen,

I think the labels that indicate which systems that libraries belong to are very useful. I think it would be pretty challenging to divide them by aspect as you indicated--I don't think I'd bother with that. I don't see a link to a list of labels on your blog--I would recommend adding that. Good luck!

  2. Thanks for the comment, Carly. I think that the search box lets you enter, say, "Anoka" and get all the Anoka posts. And I think it did even before I put the labels on. And my daughter also mentioned putting a link to the list of labels. If I can figure out how to do that, I will.

  3. I just tried an experiment. I put the word "bowls" in the search field, and went directly to the Waite Park post. I chose that word because I know it's in the post, and I know it's NOT in the labels list. I'll still see if I can figure out how to create a visible list of the labels. If readers can think of words that would be useful but that would not show up in the title or text of a post, let me know and I'll add them.

Oh, if you want to know why "bowls" is in the Waite Park post--put bowls in the search field!

  4. OK, I will label the sites that are multi-use buildings. Since words actually in the post are already searchable, I may remove all the labels that fit that category. If you want to see posts about Dakota County libraries, for example, just put "Dakota" in the search field.
And I think I'll remove all the (many) labels that are already searchable. Otherwise, trust me, the list of labels is so long, it isn't really useful.
It will be a while before I can get to this. In the meantime, keep the suggestions coming. Whatever I do will probably be done all at once.

Sorry about the "verification" step; I added it after a rash of spammish comments.
