Talk to me, folks

Hello again. Since we're all (well, most of us) under quarantine beause of COVID-19, you might as well read about some libraries that will eventually reopen. And for that matter, how about some ideas of libraries I should visit when I can? Keep in mind that I have moved from Minnesota to New Hampshire, so I'm looking for libraries in New England.

I have a couple on my list already. First, Keene, NH, which was having some serious remodeling when I visited two years ago. I had planned to take a look last summer, but it didn't work out. So that's at the top of the list.

Then, Kensington, NH, because of a short article in the Concord Monitor last Sunday. It will be the library's 125th birthday AND it's been nominated as a Historic Landmark. Two good reasons to visit.

Now it's your turn: What libraries would you have me visit, and why? Please leave your suggestions in the Comments, And thanks in advance!

Where are the Little Free Libraries?

I moved from Minnesota to New Hampshire earlier this week; all my stuff arrives on Tuesday. I'm under quarantine for another ten days or so. What can I do? Read, mess around on the computer, watch some TV (I made the mistake of getting TV after many, many years without it), and WALK!

I took long walks yesterday and today, a total of 7 or 8 miles. Yes, that's long for me these days. And in all that walking, how many Little Free Libraries did I see?

ZERO

Not one single welcoming little house on a post. Heck, I could show you a place in Minneapolis where there are six lined up in a row at the edge of a food store parking lot. Where I used to live in St. Paul I could show you at least six within a few blocks of my house, one of them right next door. What is it with these New Hampshire folks?

Where are the posts?

It's been too long since I wrote here. Why?

Well, back in January or February I visited the Arvonne Fraser Library in Dinkytown near the University of Minnesota. This used to be the bland Southeast Library. A fantastic job has been done, remodeling the space. I took a bunch of pictures, and after a delay of a few weeks, I wrote a post.

The post hadn't been up very long when I made a major goof. I was trying to tidy things up here in the blog; I highlighted the Arvonne Fraser post instead of the generic test post I wanted to lose, and next thing I knew, it had vanished beyond retrieval.

That's when I discovered that a camera problem had caused me to lose all the pictures from this site. Well, they aren't exactly lost; they are on a memory card that has gone missing. At any rate, the post wouldn't be much without the pictures. I'l find them someday.

So what has happened since then? Why no new posts? The last couple of months have been filled with all the things I had to do to sell the house I'd lived in for 39 years and ten months. If you haven't done it, you can't imagine.  Selling "as-is" saved my sanity.

Add COVID 19 into the mix. When it was time to move, a good friend who had agreed to drive my car so that I could fly with the two cats, realized that this was simply not the time for a cross country trip. Then the airline decided to cancel my flight--three times. Each cancellation was accompanied by a more-or-less reasonable alternative, but each alternative called for a change of plans for those helping with trips to the airport and other supporting activities. Eventually we did fly, cats in the cargo hold and me in the cabin with about 24 well-spaced fellow travelers.

So now I'm in self-quarantine in my new apartment in New Hampshire, waiting for the moving truck to arrive from Minnesota. I can't visit any libraries; they are all closed.

The blog remains in suspended animation, but although there are no new posts, there are 517 visits over the course of 8 years if you're looking for something to read. And I'll be back as soon as I can. Write messages to help the time pass and let me know you were here, OK?
